Wise Men followed the Star

The Birth of the Coming Messiah was a message that had been prophesied repeatedly and anxiously been awaited by many people, including the entire nation of Israel. It was not a secret, it was not hidden, in fact, it was very public knowledge. With this in mind, it makes the manner of “The birth announcement” chosen by God Himself so much more thought-provoking.
The first announcement was very public for all to see. It is the equivalent of us taking a billboard today, or a TV ad, or putting a video on YouTube and it going viral.

Matt 2:1-2
1 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem,

2 saying,”Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

Wjise Men choosing to follow the Star
Wise Men choosing to follow the Star

There were more groups of Wise Men during this time than the ones who followed the Star. The King had his own wise men. Any human alive looking at the sky during that time would have seen the star, but only select wise men knew to follow it.

Prov 4:7

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.

Isa 11:1-2
There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.

2 The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

The Wise Men who followed the Star knew how to interpret the signs of the times. They were not only men in wisdom, but also men whose had developed their understanding of the times.

Eph 1:18

the eyes of your understanding being enlightened;

The 2nd announcement was of a more specific nature, more personal. Similar to an invitation that we would extend to invite a specific person to an occasion that we would love them to join us.

Luke 2:8-12

Angel telling the shepherds where to find Jesus
Angel telling the shepherds where to find Jesus

8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.

10 Then the angel said to them,”Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.

11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

What stood out to me in this passage of scripture was the fact that these were shepherds watching their flock at night. Sound simple? But if you look at the symbolic meaning of the Shepherd in today’s society it is representative of a pastor of a church. Keeping watch over his flock means he was caring for his people in his church. He was not fleecing them or expecting them to look after themselves; he was doing what the job required, to keep them safe from the wolves. At night speaks to me of the Pastor doing his work when no one is watching. It is dark and most people are in doors at night. These shepherds were not in it to be acknowledged by anyone. Their hearts were for the sheep. They were found faithful caring for the sheep, providing food and keeping a watchful eye over their people when no one was around to give them praise for doing a “great job”. The shepherds might not have been as educated as the wise men, but God rewarded them for their faithfulness by allowing them to worship baby Jesus for doing their work in secret. God sent an angel to give them exact instructions to find Jesus.

Building on the blog I wrote last year “Breakthrough at Christmas time“, those Believers who received breakthrough this year have a decision to make as to how to go forward.
 1. They could follow Jesus (the Star) to an undisclosed destination and an veiled reason as they had obtained wisdom and understanding by studying the Word of God and obeying the Spirit. They had already learnt to trust God and the Holy Spirit.

Bright Morning Star
Bright Morning Star

Rev 22:16

“I, Jesus, …I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”

2. Believers can continue been obedient to God’s instructions by been faithful over what God has already given them. The secret to the obedience here is going ALL the way with what God has asked you to do, even when no one is watching. Not been obedient to get recognition, earn a salary or get a Christmas bonus, but genuinely obedient to carry the Body of Christ through when times are dark and no one is watching, only God

3. Believers could opt to do nothing with their breakthrough. They  feel they have pushed and worked so hard to get this breakthrough, that they “need to reward themselves” and they stop guarding their borders which are protecting their breakthrough from an enemy they do not yet understand (new levels = new devils). This often results in them losing their breakthrough and longing for the old ways as they are totally unsettled and unstable in their new area of breakthrough. They do not have enough word, obedience or faithfulness to ground them in the new challenges ahead.

When we breakthrough, our reward is to worship at Jesus feet. To bow before Him and Worship Him in Spirit and Truth is our greatest reward. Our reward is not fame or finance, it is to bow at Jesus feet and spend time worshipping Him.

Jesus on a white horse in Revelation
Jesus on a white horse in Revelation

And if you were wondering about the “been faithful” part of the shepherds: When Jesus comes back, He is called “Faithful and True” (Rev 19v11) Jesus is Faithful. He rewards Faithful.

Jumping a couple a steps in this revelation:

Rev 19:14

And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.

If we spend time worshipping Jesus, we get to come back with Him after the marriage supper riding on a white horse, equipped to defeat the enemy. The significance of this: Jesus will lead us into war if we spend the season after breakthrough at His feet worshipping Him. For those who have opted to be part of group 3, they will be fighting their own battles, be directionless and will often lose ground. It is critical that in this next season, been faithful to follow Jesus in obedience to His Word and His Spirit become our “star to follow”.

Note: there are too many scriptures linking the wisdom, understanding, faithfulness and worshipping in Spirit and Truth. I do not have enough time to connect the dots I have mentioned in this post. Doing your own study and asking God to open your eyes that your eyes may be enlightened to the revelation He has given me, will help you in worshipping at His feet in this time. I will expand more on the gaps at a later stage.

Father’s Day….

Well, straight off I need to apologize for not posting in the last month. My Windows crashed and it took a month to be repaired, naturally, I was able to practice all the fruits of the spirit on a daily basis 😀

When I finally got my computer back, with less than 5 days before Father’s Day, it put pressure on the us as the FYI Gang where really hyped to do a Father’s Day video as they enjoyed doing the Mother’s Day video so much.

The FYI gang came up with most of these ideas and we were able to pull them all together!  FYI presents has really found its little niche somewhere as for the last week the recorded views went up by over 2500 views in a week.  The concept behind it is to bring home a truth in a format that is fun to look at and that makes you think a little bit different. This Father’s Day video went down very well with especially the unsaved Fathers as the idea was not to hit them with the Gospel, but just to plant the seed that their kids really appreciate been loved by them!

I promise: No children were hurt in the filming of this video 😀

Have two blog posts lined up for you: one on weight loss and one on the only thing the devil needs to do to make me ineffective. They are already written, I just need to copy and paste and find some pretty pictures and then you will have some more reading material.

Stay blessed and remember to always Praise the Lord!

What I have been up too

When I had my 1st child, everybody told me how busy my children would keep me!

I did not realise they were talking about “How busy I would be managing their FAME!!!”

I thought they spoke about changing nappies, making bottles, making food, helping with homework!

Boy, was my perception WRONG!

My latest “Mom on a MISSION” started with a Granny. Yeah for Grannies.

Knowing we are involved in helping the local school with “Cool Kids for Christ”, and been in the ministry for many years, she came to us out of desperation asking if we had a Father’s Heart Daily Devotional for her teenage granddaughter.

Her granddaughter had asked for a Bible as a Christmas gift and she was reading the Bible with her daily and explaining the scripture. But anyone owning a teenager will know: the questions get to technical!

Knowing her granddaughter well, I was very proud of her for asking for a Bible as a Christmas gift and 2nd, I knew she had a  BB, so in a split second I felt I could write a little devotional for the young ladies in the area and send it to them via BBM as we are in a position where they know us well enough for them to actually read what we have said.

After writing the 1st devotional, I looked at it and thought: “This is so long! I won’t even read it!!!!”

And this is how the discussions started with the family as to how we could help!

For them the answer was simple. We record a 30-60 second video with a Bible Scripture and a short motivational message about the scripture. Teenagers love MP4

So, in the same fashion as what this family tackle everything….WITH MAJOR ENTHUSIASM AND NO PLANNING!!!!! We grabbed the video camera, scriptures and our daughter!

and … FYI PRESENTS was born or should I say “a STAR found her FAME”

A spot was found (my bedroom) and we recorded our 1st video. Sent it out and the response was phenomenal! We’ve been getting messages from all over begging for more. And we weren’t ready!

I’ve spent the last 3 weeks managing my daughter’s fame! Standing in front of the camera “LOOKING PRETTY” is the easiest part of FYI PRESENTS!

Here is our video sharing the gospel for Valentine’s Day:

We have now settled into a routine where FYI PRESENTS is not dominating our lives, but where people can still find the Daily Devotionals for those who don’t have BlackBerries as the response from non BlackBerry owners has also been overwhelming

FYI PRESENTS is now linked to all the most popular social network sites, including a couple of Christian network sites we did not know exsisted before FYI PRESENTS.

FYI = For Your Information

For those who don’t want their children exposed to YOUTUBE, we have opened a channel FYIpresents on GODTUBE (http://godtube.com) and INCHRISTNETWORK (http://inchristnetwork.com)

The responsess are amazing with the each video combined been viewed by over a 150 people. The views on the video clips sent via BlackBerries cannot be followed as Vu-Clip does not record hits. But judging by the subscriptions received, the videos are travelling through BB space.

This is a outreach tool from kids wanting to make a difference in other peoples lives. I was overwhelmed by my  children’s eagernes to respond to the “call of duty” the ministry has on their lives. Adults as well as teens, pre teens are all enjoying the short daily devotionals. I hope you will be blessed by it as well.

(You can imagine how many passwords I now have that I can forget!)

If you know of a child, teenager, nephew, niece, godchild who would enjoy these entertaining, but informative clips, you can find FYI presents in on of the following social media networks:

I’ve opened a new category…For The Brave of Heart only!

Please read this blog only if you are “FEELING BRAVE IN HEART”. It is a little STRONG in opinion and emotion.

With the death of Amy Winehouse making headlines, I did what I normally would when I’ve heard information of such a nature. I started praying for her family and friends.
Do I know them? No.
Your next (unspoken) question would probably be: “So why bother praying for someone’s family and friends that you don’t know?”

Amy Winehouse
Simple answer:
1. God loves them (saved or unsaved).
2. They’ve just lost someone they love and are brokenhearted. My Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted, and many people reach out to God for comfort on the death of a loved one. (another opportunity for people to find God, if someone is pushing through in prayer for them)
3. They are huge influences in their field. (This is the actual point I would like to expand on.)

I have kids in various age groups. And through the years they have listened to secular artists such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Katie Perry, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber, Ricky Martin, Michael Jackson are just a few of the names I’m able to recall at this point. My kids have raved about them, googled them, hung on every word they’ve said, looked what clothes they wore, who they were dating, bought magazines because they were on the cover, bought clothes designed by them, bought clothes because their faces were printed on the clothes etc. Picture of “influence” starting to look familiar?

As a Christian, a parent and a leader in the church, I had no clue how to deal with this infatuation my kids had with “STARS”. Hollywood seemed so much more glamorous when compared to Christianity. How does a Christian parent cope with such a challenge?

After praying for several days and asking God for wisdom on how do I teach my kids that people are not “bad”, but just “unsaved” and that what they doing is “not wrong”, they have just not had the “Godly input” that our children have been privileged to have had. I was trying to teach my children the principle of “not judging someone” before you’ve even started praying for them.

God took me to the following scripture:

1 Tim 2:1-3
1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,
2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

At that stage my answer was: “Yeah, I do pray for the government every now again. This does not solve my problem with my kids”

Until I took a closer look at v2: …and all who are in authority.
Authority means you have an ability to influence someone… good or bad.

God said: “Who is influencing your children the most: Me or the STAR they’ve obsessed with?”
The way to find out what’s in someone’s heart is to listen what comes out of their mouth! My kids were talking “stars, fame, money, clothes, Hollywood”
The main influencing factor in my children’s lives is the “STARS”!
The Stars where having more of an impact on my kids with their “flashy lifestyle” while not having the responsibility of discipline, their schooling, their manners around the dining room table, their manners towards people etc. All of the “unpopular stuff”, such as the list I’ve just rattled off, was left to the inadequate, boring, not-so-famous-parent!

Challenge: how do I change this!

After God showing me the real influence in my children’s live and bringing the scripture in line with the reality, I was able to tackle the problem from a Godly manner.

I approached the subject from a different angle. Every night when we prayed together, I would get my children to pray for the salvation of the person that “influenced” them at that stage. Very quickly, they started seeing through the façade of the fame and started lining up their behaviour with the scriptures and asking me if what that person was doing was right. And it became a powerful evangelical and equipping tool in my children’s lives.

The lesson they learnt:
1. Saved or unsaved: People are important to God.
2. Saved or unsaved: God loves people.
3. Saved or unsaved: Jesus died for people.
4. Saved or unsaved: I was to become more like Jesus and become the mediator between God and man by standing in the gap for the people. (Please refer to one of my previous posts: “I want to be more like Jesus”)
5. As a Christian, I can influence the destiny of someone’s life without them even knowing me or that I’m praying for them.

What sparked this post, was the Christians ungodly responses to Amy’s death on places such as Facebook, Twitter, sms’s etc (yeah, I am also subscribed to most of the social media networks). But sadly, this is not a once off trend I’m referring to here.

In 2011 alone, I have witnessed similar responses in the following situations:
1. When President Obama announced that Osama Bin Laden had been killed, I was horrified at these people who, on a daily basis profess they are “godly” (and even scarier thought: these people were trying to input into my life and tell me they have a message for the Body of Christ), come out with statements: “The demon is dead! Finally!” “The devil can have him” “let him rot in hell”.
2. When Japan was hit by numerous disasters earlier this year! “This happened because the Japanese do not serve God and He is judging them” What junk!

I’ve read what Christians have said of Amy Winehouse: “a tool used by the devil”, “a drug addict”, “wasted talent because the devil used her voice and God did not get the glory for the voice He gave her”.

Christians, dare we change our outlook of people and see these people as “unsaved children that My God loves and wants them in heaven”. Hell was created for the devil and his angels, not for people who the Christians have not wanted to pray for.

We all want to be leaders and Fathers in this wonderful Faith, let’s focus on what’s on God’s heart: PEOPLE and lets leave the judgement for Him to do on judgements day.

We all deep down have a desire to want to known as the person who impacts other peoples lives tremendously. Let’s learn to impact where it really makes a difference!
Heaven and hell are two total extremes. I reckon that is probably the biggest impact you could ever have on an individual’s life.
In prayer destinies are changed! This is probably the most important life changing impact you will ever have on an individual’s destiny, whilst obtaining God’s favour and been rewarded! What a great privilege to get approval from the one we love the most!

What a powerful testimony to your children that one of the “STARS/FAMOUS PEOPLE” got born again and is now ministering the Word of God. What would cement your child’s faith and trust in God more than seeing His power overcome the evil one.

Maybe the ending of Amy’s life would have been different if more parents with children following her music had adopted the response “Let’s pray for Amy’s salvation so she can glorify God with her beautiful voice”

Let’s trust that in her final minutes on earth, an obedient Christian somewhere was prompted to by the Holy Spirit and was praying for Amy’s salvation. Would it not be an awesome testimony to the power and grace of God’s salvation and forgiveness if Amy had cried out to God in her last moments and that she has been accepted and entered the Kingdom as a daughter of the Most High God!

Let’s pray for the “influences/authorities” that shape our lives, in doing so, we become destiny changers!

A thought twister!

1 John 4v8: God is love!

A statement we so easily confess about God!

If God IS LOVE, then LOVE IS God!

Because of my concept of time and eternity, for me eternity is a mind set that becomes a reality when I die and live in heaven forever and ever. So for me, the eternity concept sort of starts in my mind the day I die.
But an eternity existed before I was born. An eternity existed before God created the World.

We in our minds we’ve categorized Eternity. Let’s call it Post-Eternity. But a Pre-Eternity also exists.

We do not realize God lived without us (mankind) before we were created in Pre-Eternity. We as believers are going to live with God in Post-Eternity.

The crux – LOVE was enough for God to be a complete being in Himself during Pre-Eternity.

God made me because He chose to make me. He did not make me because He needed me to love Him. He is LOVE and existed fulfilled before He made me. I do not complete God, I am special because He chose me to live with Him in LOVE.

Why do we always think that we need an object or a person to love? If I have a new car, I’ll be happy.
If I’ve a husband or child, I’ll be happy.
If that person accepts me as a Friend, I’ll be ok.

Knowing the person of LOVE means I am fulfilled and choose to have people in my life. The opposite to NEED people in my life

People say LOVE is a verb, but LOVE is a noun. It is GOD and GOD is I AM.

If I know God and Love, I will act out of and act in love, then Love becomes a verb. But any LOVE as a verb without knowing the LOVE as a noun, is a work out of a religious mind set, destined to be burnt as wood, hay and straw. Deeds done from knowing LOVE, are never called works, they are an extension of the noun LOVE.

All I need I have in I AM, everyone else is in my life becomes I choose to have because I know the Noun LOVE and LOVE gives. Sent via my BlackBerry from Vodacom – let your email find you!

A statement heard too often by leaders. After salvation, all the Christians ever speak of is…I want to be more like Jesus… but what does it mean to be more like Jesus?

The answer to this is found when Paul says

1 Cor 11:1
1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

That raises the question: “What is Christ doing that I need to imitate?

We all have this wonderful picture of Jesus sitting on His GOLD throne, in a GOLD throne room on a sea of glass, with all the millions of angels singing and a rainbow over the throne.

The truth is: Jesus is in heaven, in the throne room, working! But the Bible says His work was done on the Cross. Yes it was. But now He is working for you and me! He is working so that I can get saved and … get this, He is praying so I can STAY saved!

Heb 7:25
25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

KJV read it like this: because he continueth ever…

Jesus did pay the price for me! And wow He is interceding so that I will accept His price and make His deliverance my own through salvation.

So if I want to be more like Jesus, all I need to do is accept Jesus as my Saviour and start interceding. But who do I pray for?

1 Tim 2:1-3

The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.
(The Message)

Child Praying

If Jesus as the only person to overcome the devil, sin and death, can pray for ALL to get saved, why do I think it is not important enough for me to pray for others?

Two chewies (my word for having to chew on, meditate on, think over something till I’ve got it in my spirit) worthy of mentioning regarding praying for others:

Chewie 1:
Job 42:10
10 And the LORD restored Job’s losses when Job prayed for his friends. Indeed the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Chewie 2:
I was listening to Benny Hinn teach on the 12 Names of God. I want to focus on 3 and 4 (Adonai and El Shaddai). Benny Hinn clearly specified that you have to get to know God in this order as they are revealed in the Bible:
1. Elohim – I only know God’s power and God’s creation
2. Jehovah – The Lord God, always connected to covenant, where I understand God’s love towards me.
3. Adonai – In Adonai, I get to know God as my Lord.
Gen 18:17
17 And the LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing,

God wanted to share with Abraham that He was on His way to destroy
Sodom and Gomorrah, and Abraham interceded by pleading with God.

In Adonai, we learn to become prophetic and intercessory. God starts sharing things with us regarding His plan for others. In Adonai, there is nothing hidden anymore.
4. El Shaddai – The All Sufficient One
In Hebrew it means the multi breasted one, one who is more than sufficient.

Is it not awesome to know that even in the order that God’s names are revealed in the Bible, we first have to start interceding and praying for other people before God starts turning our own situation around.

He only turned Job’s situation around when Job started praying for his friends. Not only does God turn our situation around, but He also restores double.

So in becoming more like Jesus, all we need to do is spend more time in prayer for the people.

This is a step I have failed at miserably over the last four months…so I’m off to go find a victim…I mean a Friend that I can pray for!

Well, Easter has come and gone, and what a great time it was! It’s the only time of the year where as Christians we, so to say, have Jesus’ Death in our faces!

But the death of my Jesus was not the only thing that died that day!

Watching, a woman’s whole future, her dream, her trust in her God, her trust in her personal prophetic word from God, her understanding of God also died, and for her it was worse, because it was her Son that was hanging there on the tree! Cursed!

When the angel visited Mary 33 years before that day, she was promised a Messiah whose throne would rule forever (Luke 1v33). How was she supposed to process and make sense of her Son’s death when she had a word from God’s Himself that He was to be called the Son Of God.

Mary was NEVER told that a death and a resurrection would all be needed to fulfil her prophetic word from God!

Through Jesus life, she kept all that Jesus did in her heart.
Every phase of Jesus life, Mary held on to that word whilst watching Jesus’ life unfold.

Mary kickstarted Jesus ministry by telling him to turn water into wine. Then she watched His ministry grow when He preached on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, when the healings started, when He fed the 5000 with 5 loaves and 2 fishes.

In her mind the next order of steps was the throne of His father David, not the death on the cross!

Mary had been chosen by God after God’s Word had been silent on earth for over 450 years. Her favor lay in the fact that her family had continued to teach their descendants God’s Word which is reflected in her reply to Elizabeth – pure Word quoted!

Most of us start doubting God if God has not spoken to us for a week, let alone to have our offspring be found faithful after God not speaking to us for 450 years!

Even though Mary kept everything in her heart, she still did not understand Jesus teachings:
Jesus said “unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains alone: but if it dies it produces much grain” (John 12v24)

Many of us are given personal words like Mary received. And we go through times where we doubt and most of all, we do not understand how God is going to make this word come to pass, but we need to understand God’s ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts.

Mary is the only person who witnessed the birth, the life, the death, the resurrection AND the ascension of Jesus.

Many times we are required to live through a crucfixion to qualify as a witness to the resurrection! Don’t give up after the death! Trust God to fulfill all He has promised!

Jesus says “In my Father’s House are many mansions…” John 14v2

Have you ever considered your Inheritance in heaven before? Many times because of our natural world we loose sight of the fact that our Spiritual Inheritance is different to our natural inheritance. When we are left an inheritance in the natural, it is divided according to the wishes of the Deceased, so all mentioned in the (dreaded) WILL have the portion allocated to them as the Deceased indicated.

Jesus say in His Father’s House are many mansions…yeah, how does that affect me?

With God, our inheritance is MULTIPLIED, not DIVIDED! Everyone gets a mansion. No selling this mansion to split the money to avoid one getting more than another!
With this inheritance, we each get our God inheritance. No dividing, no fighting for “more incase I loose out here” concept…

Is this not enough reason to share Jesus with more people as it does not limit God’s inheritance to me! They get exactly the same as me!

This is for all those that have family and friends near and dear that have lost a loved one….

Yesterday someone very near and dear to me received possibly the worst news ever.

I remember receiving my news and not been able to control my tears, they just ran freely. No matter how big my sunglasses were, they could not hid them.

Even though the Bible says Man is appointed to die once…its still a shock when news comes…even if we were expecting it. Mine came at a time when I had no airtime to phone, no car to travel to go visit them, no money to travel to get there, no emotional energy left inside of me to physically even be able to care for someone else. I felt cheated!

But God is faithful, He helped me with all my emotions in that area too.

I was listen to John Paul Jackson minister on “3 Keys to understanding the Interaction between Heaven and Earth”. He was explaining how God was not in time, but time was in God.

Yes we know that. But do we comprehend that?

God speaks to my Great Great Grandfather, to my Great Grandfather, my Grandfather, my Father, Me, my Children,(from this point forward – not yet born) my Grandchildren, my Great grandchildren and their Children and their Children ALL at the SAME TIME!

Time separates me from my loved ones, but in God they are near me! Now I ask God to tell them that I love them and miss them. Now that concept of “not here, the gap left” is filled with God’s Spirit because He is with ME and with THEM all at the same time!

Narrows the time gap for us and makes us realise we still have our loved ones with us wherever God is and that is EVERYWHERE!

In the words of Celine Dion’s theme song from the movie Titanic: “my heart will go on” …. and you will always be in it!

Be Blessed and be Strong in Spirit!

I have nothing against sport, but when the Soccer World Cup and now the Cricket World Cup came around, I’ve not made an attempt to watch any of the games, but I’ve also not avoided any of the games.

Soccer – not interested in cause I don’t understand the rules. Cricket – understand the rules, but the games are too long for me. I always think I can be busy doing something more productive. I have made an attempt to watch the last couple of overs where the finish has been nailbiting.

One game in history did however challenge me into thinking if I was the captain, what would I say to “The Boyz” in the changing room right now, them having to come out and play their best against all odds. I was at a loss for words.

Being in leadership for most of my married life, I had no one to teach me “how to be a leader” so I had to learning by the example of others. I used to learn to recognise from a leaders position when were the times when you would have to send your people out to do the impossible against all odds. Another thing I noticed was that often we as leaders would lack the right words to say when we stare defeat in the eyes. When South African captain Graeme Smith had to send his men onto the field to chase an unheard of score of 434 to Australia, I did not want to be in the changing room for that pep talk.
Eventually I sat down and really pondered on what my talk would have been been to “The Boyz”. It sure would have started with something like

“Have u actually checked their score? How did you guys allow them to do so well”

Nothing uplifting about that. Change in mental strategy and before the game was over (and after I was over the intimidation of the score), I decided my pep talk would have consisted of

“Boys, they did well, but we are better!”

As a leader you cannot look at the negative 1st, you always have to start with life and end with life.

This cricket game that taught me a lesson I have practiced over and over and it has proven reliable, as long as I believe what I say.

Speak life, a principle not to be sneered at!

I eagerly anticipate the Rugby World Cup (have lots of lessons to learn!) Jokes, I enjoy rugby!
